West TN Game of the Week:

Ridgeway vs Whitehaven

After an exciting first week of West Tennessee high school football, we’re right back into the mix, with our week two ‘Game of the Week’. That matchup will be the Ridgeway Roadrunners vs the Whitehaven Tigers. Last week, Ridgeway was throttled 35-3 vs MUS, while Whitehaven was demolishing Hamilton 50-0. Last season, this game was set up the same way, with Ridgeway facing the Tigers after a double-digit loss to MUS.

Not only is this game crucial for both teams because it’s the next one on the schedule, but it’s also their last game before both teams go out of state for their week three matchups. An inter-region matchup like this can build the confidence necessary to go on the road and face a team you’ve never seen before, in a different state. Ridgeway goes to West Monroe, LA next week, while Whitehaven goes to North Little Rock, AR. Ridgeway comes home for 4 consecutive home games after that, however, Whitehaven’s schedule only gets tougher.

The Tigers will go to North Little Rock, then to Brentwood Academy in Nashville, to face the Eagles who have won 4 straight state titles. After that, they go to Southaven, MS. They tag on two more road games after Southaven too. Simply put, this game is a must win for the Tigers. They’re poised to make a run at the 6A state title this year, but will have to play 5 consecutive road games after this Friday’s matchup with Ridgeway.

For Whitehaven, their defense runs this game. Their linebacker trio of Martavius French, Bryson Eason, and Tamarion McDonald are without a doubt the best linebacker group in the state. French and Eason are 4-star prospects who will likely both play at Arkansas. McDonald is a 3-star committed to Mississippi State. They will control this game like they always do, and will force Ridgeway to work around them. Without QB Quincy Casey this season, Ridgeway could have a long night trying to move the ball. On the other side, Whitehaven returns RB Cameron Sneed, who ran for 1300+ yards last season and 15 TDs. Sneed averaged an incredible 8.8 YPC and 131.4 YPG. Ridgeway will likely have their hands full with Whitehaven on Friday, as they are simply less-talented. Whitehaven has 6 players in the top-100 of the 2020 class in Tennessee, to Ridgeway’s zero. Whitehaven wins this game by a couple scores.
