Jesse McMillan is the new head football coach at Volunteer.
The 38 year old McMillan had the interim tag removed and now takes over the Falcon program replacing Justin Pressley who is now the new head football coach at Carter.
“I am just really grateful and humbled for opportunity to lead these young men in a community that I really enjoy. We’re going to work to put a team out there that people can be proud of,” McMillan said.
Volunteer is coming off a 4-6 season and will go into the 2020 with momentum as they are on a two game winning streak.
“Jesse McMillan has been coached by some of the best in the business and experienced success as a player at various levels. He understands all facets of the game and knows what it takes to be successful individually and as a team. I look forward to seeing him put his stamp on the program,” Volunteer Principal Bobby Wines said.
After graduating from Georgia Southern, McMillan started his coaching career at Jones County High School (GA) in 2004 and was named the defensive coordinator in 2009.
He then came home to Dobyns Bennett where he graduated from in 2000 and was the defensive coordinator there for five seasons (2010-14).
McMillan came to Volunteer in 2018 after spending three years in private business.
“Jesse McMillan’s football knowledge and passion for Volunteer High School gives me confidence that he is the best person to lead our football program. His presence will make the transition smooth for our players going into the 2020 season,” Volunteer Athletic Director Jim Whalen said.
Currently there are 10 schools looking for a head coach they are: Dickson County, Fairley, Fayette Academy, First Assembly Christian, Harding Academy, Hickman County, Silverdale, Tipton Rosemark, Whites Creek and York Institute
