Yesterday, the Memphis Commercial Appeal posted a story about five Memphis Central players planning to transfer to Ravenwood. The players are 4-star Offensive Lineman Chris Morris, College QB prospect Tevin Carter, 3-star Junior Defensive End Renard Gwynn, So. DB Tamerious Bell, and Jr. Terry Carter. Two of these five players (Chris Morris and Tevin Carter) were already ruled ineligible by the TSSAA earlier this year when they transferred from Freedom Prep to Memphis Central. Melvin Cole is listed as the players “guardian” in the story and offered the following quote to the Commercial Appeal when asked why the players chose Ravenwood: “We have a good relationship with Grimes and his father, so it worked out pretty well.” Here is the full story from the Commercial Appeal.
“Grimes” is Reggie Grimes Jr., a 5-star prospect that transferred to Ravenwood from Mt. Juliet this past offseason. His father is Reggie Grimes Sr. who was named Defensive Coordinator at Ravenwood this past offseason. There’s one big problem with Cole’s assessment that a good relationship with Grimes is why his players will be transferring to Ravenwood: Grimes is claiming via his twitter account that he knows nothing about the transfers and hints that they will not be transferring to Ravenwood. Below is the interaction on Twitter between Reggie Grimes Sr. , @NashvillePreps , and Tennessean Preps writer Tom Kreager. This first tweet is Reggie Grimes Sr. responding to @NashvillePreps posting the Commercial Appeal story:
…Also, I have some “prime” beach front property with a great view of both oceans right here in Ft Cooper, TN. It can be yours for next to nothing
If any of them come, I’ll take you to dinner. Your choice.
