The TSSAA has decided to delay their vote on a return to play until they gather more information from the Governor’s Task Force on COVID-19. In a meeting that was expected to announce a plan for a return to play, TSSAA Executive Director Bernard Childress instead asked the Board of Control to delay the vote until more info can be gathered. He also urged people to socially distance, wear masks, and wash their hands if they want fall sports to return at all in 2020.
The three plans that were scheduled to be voted on all included an option to start practice on August 30th with games returning on September 18th. Option 1 included 7 regular season games with a full 5 rounds of Playoffs. Option 2 featured 8 regular season games while chopping off one round of Playoffs. Option 3 featured 9 regular season games with only Region Champions advancing to the Playoffs. The delay in the vote leaves the door slightly ajar for a return to play at the previously scheduled date with a full 10 game schedule and full Playoffs.
