Tracy Hayworth Out As Head Football Coach at Grundy County

Tracy Hayworth’s three seasons as the head football coach at Grundy County didn’t go the way he envisioned when he took the job in July 2018.

The Yellow Jackets finished 3-27 in his three seasons at the helm and Hayworth has been fired as Grundy County head coach.

“Yes, I can confirm that he has been relieved of his duties as the Head High School Football Coach at Grundy County,” Grundy County Athletic Director Anna Meeks said.

The Yellow Jackets won Hayworth’s debut in 2018 as they defeated East Hickman 21-13 but lost the last nine games to finish 1-9 in 2018.

Grundy then finished the 2019 season winless at 0-10 and broke a 23-game losing streak by beating Whitwell this season as they also defeated Sequatchie County to finish 2-8 this year.

The next head coach will be the ninth head coach since 2000 for the Yellow Jackets joining Greg Brewer (2000, 2005-06), Ken Colquette (2001-04), Chris Pickett (2007), Jim Swafford (2008), Nick Bryant (2009-14), Casey Tate (2015-17), Scott Smith (February-July 2017) and Hayworth.

The Yellow Jackets will be a part of a new look five-team region 4-3A as Cannon County, Community, Giles County and Sequatchie County will join Grundy County.

Currently nine schools in Brainerd, Cumberland Gap, Grainger, Grundy County, Jackson Central Merry, Lakeway Christian, Northwest, Ooltewah, and Sycamore are looking for a head coach.
