Stewarts Creek Hires Second Football Coach


Bert Browne will be the second head football coach at Stewarts Creek.

Browne, a 27 year coaching veteran has coaching experience at both the high school and college level and has coached in Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky and Mississippi.

“I could not be more excited for the future of our football program under the leadership of Coach Browne. I’m proud of the foundation we’ve built to this point, and with our collective commitment to excellence, I know we will achieve even greater levels of success next season and beyond,” Stewarts Creek Principal Clark Harrell said.

He will replace David Martin who retired after 45 total years in coaching and Martin started the Stewarts Creek program in 2013.

Martin was inducted into the Tennessee Football Coaches Association (TnFCA) Hall of Fame in 2017 and he accumulated a 234-135 overall record.

Martin started the Stewarts Creek football program back in 2013 an led the Red Hawks to back to back winning records in 2015 and 2016.

The Red Hawks made the school’s lone playoff appearance in 2016 as they made the Class 5A playoffs losing to Hillsboro in the first round.

Browne has both high school and college coaching experience as he was the head coach at Perry County Central (KY) on two separate occasions (2002, 2006-09) and posted a 27-27 overall record.

He was also the head coach for four seasons at Madison Central (KY) for four seasons (2010-13) as he was 15-30 in that stop.

His first head coaching job was in Manchester as he was the head coach at Coffee County for two seasons (1996-97).

Browne was the offensive coordinator last season at Elbert County (GA) and also has college experience as a graduate assistant at Eastern Kentucky (1998), the offensive coordinator at Holmes Community College (MS) for three years (1999-2001) and West Georgia Junior College for three years as well (2003-05) and also served as the Recruiting Coordinator at Arkansas Tech in 2014.

There are currently 17 programs looking for a head coach they are: Antioch, Bartlett, Cleveland, Collierville, East Hamilton, East Hickman, East Robertson, Greeneville, Hillcrest, Hillwood, Nashville Overton, Northeast, Northpoint Christian, Polk County, Tellico Plains, Trousdale County and Waverly
