Overton placed on “Restrictive Probation” and forced to forfeit against Ravenwood

Due to a post game fight in a 24-0 win over Antioch last week, Nashville Overton has been removed from the Class 6A playoffs and are on “restrictive” probation for the remainder of the 2018-19 season beginning October 31, 2018.

Ravenwood will now receive a bye in the first round and will face the Cane Ridge- Franklin winner in the second round.

The Overton and Antioch football program are both on “restrictive” probation and both schools have been fined $2,000 dollars as well.

In a letter addressed to Overton principal Jill Pittman from TSSAA Executive Director Bernard Childress, the TSSAA reviewed the film and at the conclusion of the football game there was a physical altercation between several football players from both teams. The altercation started when the teams lined up to shake hands as a sign of good sportsmanship. Instead, a fight quickly turned into a brawl. There were unidentified adults and students on the field.

The police report we were able to obtain stated that officers were already on the scene helping control the players when they observed an Antioch player rare back with a helmet and start swinging . This caused a riot to break out between the two teams and people started coming out of the stands. At this time, officers put out a code 5000 as they saw things escalating quickly.
