Dewayne Tabor went to Mary V. Wheeler Elementary School in Pikeville, Tennessee before his family moved to Georgia in 1984.
Now 35 years later, Tabor is coming back to Pikeville to take over the Warrior football program.
Tabor was announced as the Warrior head coach on Wednesday and replaces Kris Frady who was the interim head coach in 2018 and led Bledsoe to the Class 2A playoffs as the Warriors finished 3-8 on the season.
“I feel fortunate and blessed to have the opportunity to coach at Bledsoe County. I’m looking forward to getting on campus and building relationships with our players, coaches, students, teachers, and community. I would like to thank the administration for this opportunity. I’m ready to work and start preparing for the future,” Tabor said.
The Bledsoe job will be the third head coaching job for Tabor as he was the head coach at Monterey (1994-96) and Stewart County (2000-03).
“We are indeed excited about the hiring of Coach Tabor as the Head Football Coach at Bledsoe County High School. The entire community looks forward with great enthusiasm to what lies ahead for the team. We are confident that the positives that Coach Tabor brings with his experience and success as a head coach will be motivating to all who support Warrior Football,” Bledsoe County Principal Linda Pickett said.
For the last 14 years, Tabor has been an assistant coach at Emanuel County Institute in Twin City, Georgia and for the last 11 years has served as the Offensive Coordinator.
In his 14 seasons at Emanuel County, the Bulldogs have been a Class 3A powerhouse team winning two Georgia AAA state titles in 2007 and 2012 and were runner up in 2008 and ECI posted a 141-33 record during that time.
After leaving Stewart County, he came to Georgia and was an assistant at Griffin (GA) in 2004 before coming to EMI in 2005.
