Fred Shambaugh is heading to the Lone Star state to coach in 2020.
Shambaugh has resigned after six seasons at MTCS and will be an assistant coach and have administrative duties at Dallas Christian high school (TX) which is coming off a 10-2 season after they lost in the second round of the TAPPS Division II playoffs.
“I am extremely grateful that I got to work with amazing, like minded, families. After 21 years in public school it was nice being able to be open about my faith without having to be clever about it,” Shambaugh said.
“It has been an honor serving the families that make up the MTCS community. I’ve always said the strength of MTCS is the amazing people it brings together. My family will cherish those relationships forever.”
In his six seasons at MTCS, Shambaugh led the Cougars to the playoffs five times in three different classifications (2014 in 2A, 2016 in 1A and 2017, 2018 and 2019 in Division II-A).
The Cougars are coming off a 4-7 season as they were defeated 26-21 by Fayette Academy in the Division II-A playoffs.
“Our MTCS community will miss Coach Shambaugh and his family. He is a wonderful classroom teacher, a Christian example to our students, and he successfully led our football program through our transition into TSSAA Division II.” MTCS Secondary Principal Robert Sain said.
While the MTCS administration conducts a search for a permanent coach, Cougar offensive coordinator BJ Robertson will serve as the interim head coach.
“We thank Coach Shambaugh for his valued leadership on the field, in the classroom, and as a spiritual leader in our community, and we wish him and his family continued success in their future endeavors. While Coach Shambaugh will be greatly missed, we are confident God will provide the right individual to build on our current tradition of excellence and take MTCS Football to the next level,” MTCS President Matt Tiller said.
Currently there are six schools looking for a head coach they are: Austin East, Fayette Ware, MTCS, Sycamore, Whites Creek and Whitwell
