Mt. Juliet Given Two Years Probation for Violation of Recruiting Rule

Mt. Juliet’s football program has been hit with two years probation for breaking Article II, Section 17 in the TSSAA Bylaws known as the Recruiting rule.

In a letter addressed to Mt. Juliet principal Leigh Ann Rainey, TSSAA Executive Director Bernard Childress outlined the Bears punishment which also includes a $1,000 dollar fine ($500 per year).

Mt. Juliet’s first year of probation runs from May 1, 2020 to May 1, 2021 and the Bears will have to abide by the following:

*Must reduce the number of allowed Fall 2020 scrimmages from 4 to 2.

*No jamboree participation allowed.

*No conditioning, weightlifting, or practice allowed during the first week of summer practice after the Dead Period (July 5, 2020, through July 11, 2020).

*No 7-on-7 scrimmages or competitions during the first year of probation.

*Spring 2021 practice reduced from 12 days in a 15-day period to 7 days in a 10-day period.

*No Spring scrimmage allowed in 2021.

*No in-person interest meetings with middle school students.

Mt. Juliet’s second year of probation will run from May 2, 2021 through May 1, 2022 and looks like this:

*Must reduce the number of Fall 2021 scrimmages from 4 to 3.

*No jamboree participation allowed.

*No Spring 2022 scrimmage allowed.

*No in-person interest meetings with middle school students.

According to the letter, a current Wilson Central student was extended personal invitations to virtual workouts with Mt. Juliet football via the Remind app and to participate in virtual position meetings between March 26 and April 17.

Screenshots were provided to district staff and reportedly the TSSAA staff. This student is also scheduled to transfer to Green Hill High School next year.

The Mt. Juliet coaches then took the player off their list for the Remind app.
