Midway Makes Coaching Hire; Cantrell Hired as New DC at West Carroll

It took Midway two weeks to find their new football leader.

Ron Treadway who served as an assistant coach at Kingston last season has been named the new head football coach for the Green Wave.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity. Midway is a tremendous community to work in as the people living here are passionate supporters of all the athletic programs,” Treadway said.

He replaces Ryen Minton who was recently hired as the offensive coordinator at CAK.

Minton led the Green Wave program to a 22-20 overall record and led Midway to back to back Class 1A playoff appearances in 2017 and 2018.

Midway is coming off a 7-4 year where they made the 1A playoffs before losing to Cloudland in the first round.

Before coming to Midway, Treadway spent four years as the principal at Sunbright high school (2015-18).

His previous football coaching experience was as an assistant coach at Rockwood for ten seasons (1995-2004).

Treadway also served as the assistant principal and head middle school football coach at CAK for eight years as well (2005-13).

There are currently three programs looking for a head coach they are: Dresden, Glencliff and RePublic

Cantrell Hired at West Carroll
Former Westview head coach Trey Cantrell will be coordinating the West Carroll defense in 2019.

Cantrell has been hired as the new West Carroll defensive coordinator as War Eagle head coach Josh Wolfe is excited about the hire.

“Coach Cantrell is an awesome coach and an even better person. Obviously an awesome hire for us to have someone with Trey’s resume and coaching experience here at West Carroll. He brings a ton of knowledge and experience coaching in big games at Westview and I couldn’t be happier or more excited to have him on our staff,” Wolfe said.

Cantrell was the head coach at Westview the last three seasons as the Chargers finished 6-24 in his tenure there.

Before taking the head job, Cantrell served as the Chargers defensive coordinator and was on the staff as an assistant for 12 seasons.

The War Eagles are coming off a 8-4 season in which they made the second round of the Class 1A playoffs and they ten starters from last years team.
