The McGavock football program has been working hard this offseason to make sure they don’t have a repeat of the 2016 season in 2017.
The Raiders experienced a 1-10 record which is the worst season for McGavock since they were winless at 0-10 back in 1993.
McGavock will return 11 starters including six on offense as they will try to get back to their winning ways under Head Coach Jay Gore.
Two solid running backs return for the Raiders as junior Ta’micus Napier and senior Greg Hanserd will both get opportunities to tote the rock in 2017.
There wasn’t a sophomore slump for Napier as he rushed for almost 1,200 yards and Hanserd was good as well for McGavock. Fullbacks Keshawn Johnson and Jailen Wawa will be in the backfield as well.
Two will return on the line as senior Devan Bryant and junior Eduardo Villalobos will be back as well as senior Adrian Ewin and all three linemen will also play on the defensive line as well.
Junior Harley Tyler-Neal will start at quarterback this season and will have two returning starters at wide receiver in Quentin Crawford and Cardarius Roriex.
Another senior in Elijah Woldemariam will give the Raiders a trio of receivers that Tyler-Neal can use as weapons.
The secondary will be the most experienced group for the Raiders as Hanserd, Crawford and Roriex will all be back after starting in 2016.
The most inexperienced group will be at linebacker as seniors Johnson and Woldemariam as well as Wawa will be the three starting linebackers.
The Raiders’ non-Region schedule will have some familiar foes as they play Maplewood, Lebanon as well as traveling to Franklin and hosting Mt. Juliet.

Coach Gore’s Thoughts:
“We are looking forward to the season. We return several starters from last year and several others who got a lot of playing time. Kids have had a really good off season in the weight room and are anxious to get on the field. Playing 6A football against who we play is a challenge every week, we don’t have a week off or a game where we can just show up and win. Our kids know we play the toughest competition and are excited about the possibilities that await them.”
