Matt Swoner Resigns at Red Boiling Springs After Two Seasons

After two seasons at Red Boiling Springs, Matt Swoner has resigned as the head football coach at the small Macon County school.

In his two seasons at RBS, the Bulldogs finished 1-8 both years under Swoner.

“I’ve enjoyed my time coaching and being around the kids, but I think it’s best for me to step down and spend some time with family,” Swoner said.

The Bulldogs got their lone win coming two weeks ago as they beat Pickett County 26-21 as running back Dylan Templeton ran for 220 yards and scored one touchdown and  Dalton Thompson led the defense making eight tackles and  two sacks.

With that win, RBS broke a 15 game losing streak and and a 11 game region 4-1A losing streak as well.

The future of the RBS football program could be hanging in the balance as the school only has 194 students at the high school and 340 in Kindergarten through 12th grade and low numbers in the football program have plagued the program for decades.
