After five seasons of revitalizing the Waverly football program, Matt McConnell will try to breathe new life in the Westview program.
McConnell led Waverly to a 50-13 record and five Class 2A playoff appearances including two trips to the 2A Semifinals.
He replaces Trey Cantrell who resigned in November after leading Westview to a 6-24 record in three seasons at the helm.
Westview is coming off a 2-8 season in which they missed the 3A playoffs.
Waverly finished last season 10-4 after losing to 2A state champion Peabody 35-21 in the Semifinals.
They also made the Semifinals in 2016 and the Quarterfinals in 2017 as well.
“I’m really excited about getting started at Westview because it’s a great community that is hungry and is ready to get back to winning football games,” McConnell said. I want to win football games and it’s a great match for me.”
Before taking over the Waverly program, McConnell started his coaching career at Lewis County back in 2003.
He spent seven seasons in Hohenwald, before going to Dyersburg for one season in 2010 before spending three seasons at Brighton (2011-13).
There are currently 17 programs looking for a head coach they are: Antioch, Bartlett, Cleveland, Collierville, East Hamilton, East Hickman, Hillcrest, Hillwood, Lipscomb Academy, Nashville Overton, Northeast, Northpoint Christian, Polk County, Stewarts Creek, Tellico Plains, Trousdale County and Waverly
