JASPER- The final football dress rehearsal happened tonight at Marion County as the Warriors hosted the annual Sequatchie Valley Jamboree.
The start of the regular season starts next Thursday and a full slate will be played next Friday night and eight teams played to get better in front of a packed house.
Two of the top Class 1A teams in South Pittsburg and Whitwell as well as the host Warriors all finished the night winning both quarters they played in.
Bledsoe County and Grundy County went 1-1 on the evening which was encouraging after both schools had head coaching changes last month.
Here’s the highlights of all eight quarters at the jamboree.
South Pittsburg 7, Grundy County 0- The Pirates fresh off a Semifinal appearance last season wasted no time getting on the scored as junior running back scored from two yards out giving South Pittsburg the first quarter win.
Whitwell 14, Sequatchie County 0- The Tigers also wanted no time as the Tiger running game outlasted Sequatchie County in second quarter action as senior running back Josh Wingo and wide receiver Hudson Petty both scored touchdowns on the ground for Whitwell in the win.
Bledsoe County 7, Lookout Valley 0- The Warriors under the tutelage of first year coach Kris Frady got an explosive scoring play through the air as freshman quarterback Harmon Keith connected with junior Colby Rogers to give Bledsoe the third quarter win.
Marion County 7, Silverdale 0- The host Warriors got a late 10 yard scamper from senior quarterback Toney Sampson to seal the win over a highly motivated Silverdale unit.
South Pittsburg 7, Bledsoe County 0- The Pirates capped off their two quarter evening with another win as sophomore running back Hunter Frame scored to give South Pittsburg another shutout win.
Grundy County 12, Sequatchie County 0- The Yellow Jackets capped off their evening with a nice win over region rival Sequatchie County as seniors Ethan Nunley and Johnie Adkins both added touchdown runs as Grundy County won under first year coach Tracy Hayworth.
Whitwell 9, Silverdale 0- Whitwell got a safety and a touchdown
late to pull away from Silverdale for their second win of the night.
Senior wide receiver Jaren Thames hauled in a touchdown pass upping the Tiger lead to 9-0 after Whitwell got a safety on the previous Silverdale possession.
Marion County 12, Lookout Valley 0- Freshman running back Rylee Rogers stole the show in the final quarter for the Warriors as he scored twice in the final 12 minute stanza for Marion. Rogers broke around left end and went 80 yards for the Warriors on their first offensive possession of the game and added another 15 yard run for his second touchdown of the quarter.
