Lausanne Becomes the latest school to play a Region only schedule

Two time Division II state champion Lausanne have cancelled their non-region schedule and will only play their Division II-AA West region schedule according to Lausanne head coach and athletic director Kevin Locastro.

The Lynx cancelled contests against out of state opponent Mayfield (KY) (August 21, week 1), Cordova (September 11, week 4), Wooddale (September 25, week 6) and Westwood (September 16, week 9) and will only play their five Division II-AA West opponents.

“We are canceling Mayfield (KY), Cordova, Wooddale and Westwood. We viewed this season as a marathon and not a sprint and we wanted to minimize risk by playing less games and hopefully have the ability to compete in each of our region games,” Locastro said.

“Our region collectively decided that if a region game had to be canceled because one or both teams had a positive case of COVID-19 then we would make that game up at a later mutual date that did not conflict with other region games. With that in mind I also concluded it would be unfair for our school to cancel a non-region game a week or two prior to playing because we had a region make up game.”

The Lynx who won the 2016 Division II-A state title and the 2017 Division II-AA state title will open up region play in week three at First Assembly Christian on September 4.

“After extensive internal discussions and in consultation with others, Lausanne has decided play scheduled District games only as a means to delay the start of competitive play, to reduce possible exposure, and to provide ample time between games in the event of a positive case,” Lausanne Headmaster Stuart McCathie said.

Their other four region contests will be at Harding Academy (September 18), at defending Division II-AA state champion Evangelical Christian School (October 2) and will end with back to back home games with Northpoint Christian (October 16) and St. George’s (October 30).

On Monday, two Chattanooga Division II-AA East schools in Boyd Buchanan and Chattanooga Christian chose to play all region games as well.

Boyd will  play the following six-game region schedule: at Knoxville Webb (September 4), at Chattanooga Christian (September 18), Silverdale (October 2), Christian Academy of Knoxville (October 16), at Notre Dame (October 23) and Knoxville Grace (October 30).

Chattanooga Christian will play their Division II-AA East schedule as well playing Boyd Buchanan (September 18), CAK (September 25), at Knoxville Grace (October 9), Notre Dame (October 16), at Knoxville Webb (October 23) and Silverdale (October 30).

The Chargers will play seven total regular season games as their only non-region contest will be against Baylor in week two which is on  August 28.
