Terrance Ayers has been hired as the new head football coach at KIPP Academy.
Ayers, 25, prepped at Mitchell before playing quarterback at Lane College will replace G.B. Myles who resigned after just one season at KIPP.
The Phoenix are coming off a 3-7 season after they started the year winning their first two games.
“KIPP Athletic Director Dion Barry blessed me with an opportunity that I’ve dreamed of since playing high school football here in Memphis,” Ayers said.
“I look forward to the task at hand and look forward to building a program at KIPP Academy and I feel like I’ve had the opportunity to learn from great coaches during my playing days and the last two years I’ve been home coaching.”
Ayers has only two seasons of coaching experience as he was the quarterbacks coach at Mitchell the last two seasons.
He was then hired as the offensive coordinator at Hillcrest in February and went through spring practice there before getting the job offer from KIPP Academy.
“Terrance is a great young man and he’s very humble and will be very relatable to the kids in north Memphis,” Barry said. He is all about academics and athletics and is determined to be one of the next great coaches.”
There are currently four programs looking for a head coach they are: Dresden, Glencliff, Hardin Valley and RePublic
