Les Greer has a second chance to be a head coach.
On Thursday, Greer was announced as the new head coach at Kenwood.
He replaces Robert Gillard who resigned last month after two seasons at Kenwood to concentrate on his health after he was diagnosed recently with congestive heart failure.
Kenwood are coming off a 4-7 season that saw them lose in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.
“I’m excited and thankful for the opportunity to work with Mr. Heaston, Mr. Chadwell and the entire Knight Nation. They have talented players that play with great effort. I can’t wait to get in the weight room and on the practice field with these guys,” Greer said.
Greer spent the first five weeks of the 2018 season as the head coach at The King’s Academy but started the year 0-5 and resigned as coach and athletic director.
A couple of weeks later, he was hired as an assistant coach at Stewarts Creek and finished up the school year in Rutherford county.
Before coming to The Kings Academy, Greer spent the last five seasons as the defensive coordinator at Knoxville Catholic and helped the Fighting Irish win two state titles (4A in 2015 and 5A in 2017)
Greer started his coaching career in Murfreesboro at Riverdale in 2007 and was there for three years.
He left Riverdale to go to Siegel in 2009 and stayed there for four years before coming to Knoxville Catholic.
There are currently seven programs looking for a head coach they are: Bolivar, Bolton, Cloudland, Ensworth, Haywood, Manassas and Morristown East
