Grainger Names Seymour OC Manis as Football Coach

Seymour Offensive Coordinator Michael Manis has been named the new head football coach at Grainger high school.

Manis who also served as the Seymour offensive line and strength and conditioning coach as well will be the third head football coach at Grainger since 2008.

He replaces Chad Tate who resigned in January and will stay on to be the school’s athletic director.

“Grainger High School is happy to announce Michael Manis as our new head football coach. We are excited for this new chapter in Grizzly football and we are excited to have Coach Manis as our football coach,” Tate said.

Grainger has finished 6-5 the last two seasons and lost to Anderson County in the first round this season and the best record under Tate was 7-4 back in 2017.

The Grizzlies are 0-7 in the playoffs since being renamed Grainger high school in 2008 as the school was known as Rutledge high school before 2008.

Despite a losing record at 41-44 overall record, Tate led the Grizzlies to five Class 4A playoff appearances (2013, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2020) in his eight seasons as head coach.

“I am definitely excited about the opportunity the administration at Grainger County has given me. Everything about the interview process was great and felt like a fit for me from the beginning. The importance of relationships  and community support was expressed during my interviews. Relationships are something I believe to be a vile part in building a program. And having a community that provide their support for the school and sport teams is always an added bonus. I look forward to the relationships that will be built with the team and community and I am just excited to be a part of it,” Manis said.

Before going to Seymour the last three years (2018-20), Manis was an assistant coach at both Jefferson County for six years (2012-17) and Carter (2011).

Currently nine schools in Brainerd, Cumberland Gap, Grundy County, Hunters Lane, Jackson Central Merry, John Overton, KIPP Academy, Northwest and South Pittsburg are looking for a head coach.
