Following the lead of Ezell Harding and Webb School in the last several years, Grace Baptist Academy is going from 11-man to eight-man football.
Grace Baptist Academy, a small private school located in Chattanooga will be transitioning from 11-man to eight-man football for the next two-year reclassification period.
“We will not be participating in football in the TSSAA for the next two years. Our plan is to participate in 8-man through the TSIAA. This is related to our recent disaster of losing our school facilities that has affected enrollment numbers. We hope to be back on our campus in 2022,” Grace Baptist head football coach and Athletic Director Bob Ateca said.
Grace Baptist finished this season with 2-7 record as they competed in Division II-A East and missed the playoffs and were scheduled to play in DII-A East in 2021 with Friendship Christian, Lakeway Christian, Middle Tennessee Christian, The King’s Academy and the Webb School.
Grace Baptist will play in the 10 team TSIAA (Tennessee State Independent Athletic Association) for the next two seasons.
The teams are in two divisions for 2021 as the following five teams will be the North Division: Ezell Harding, Christian Community, South Haven Christian, Lighthouse Christian and Franklin Classical.
While the South Division will feature the following five teams: Franklin Christian (2020 Champion), Grace Baptist, Lancaster Christian, Providence Christian and Riverside Christian.
There are also two eight-man teams in the Tennessee Heat and Sacred Heart of Jesus School in Jackson that play an eight-man schedule but are independent and not in the TSIAA.
Grace Baptist will go before the TSSAA Board of Control at Tuesday’s meeting and will ask the TSSAA to be able to play the Division II state basketball tournament during that same time frame.
