Williamson County was the high school football hub in the state a week ago with three different games coming down to the wire. Franklin scored in the closing seconds to upset Ravenwood, Brentwood scored on a miracle underhanded flip pass with 18 seconds left to beat Independence and Brentwood Academy had to come from behind to erase an early deficit and later hold on for dear life to get past Pope John Paul II. Those games (and others) set up big time match-ups this week as Division I teams try to advance to the semifinals while D-II teams are a win away from playing for a state championship in Cookeville. The old school battle for Williamson Co. AND Rutherford Co. will be played in the Quarters, a battle between an emerging 2A power trying to knock off a program that’s been where they want to go many times, a match-up of elite D-II-AAA programs, and the absolute best 5A pairing of the season highlight this week’s Friday Five. Before we move on to the list, I want to send my condolences to Ron Crawford on the passing of his mother. Coach Crawford is first class in every way and has always treated me with respect. I have great admiration for him and his family and want them to know that they are in our prayers here at TNHighSchoolFootball.com.
