Lakeway Christian Academy who will play their second junior varsity season upcoming in 2020 will have another head coach in charge.
The small private school in Morristown hired former Furman head coach Bruce Fowler to start the program in 2018.
Now after one junior varsity season, Fowler has told the administration he will retire at the end of the school year but will still have an advisory role with the program.
Jermel Jones, 36, who led Master’s Academy (FL) to the the Sunshine State Athletic Conference championship in 2019 will take over the Lakeway program.
“Lakeway Christian Academy is excited to announce that Jermel Jones will be joining the organization as Head Football Coach and Dean of Students,” a school press release said.
Jones led the Master’s Academy to a 31-21 overall record and two playoff appearances in his five seasons as head coach.
They finished 8-2 in 2018 and finished 9-2 this season.
“I would like to thank Lakeway Christian Academy and Coach Fowler for giving me the opportunity to serve as the head football coach,” Jones said.
“When most look at Lakeway they see a lot of work but when I look at Lakeway I see a lot of opportunity. I’m ready to get there and get to work. A mantra that I stand behind says that hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work as hard.”
Jones has spent his entire coaching career in the Sunshine state with assistant coaching stints at Hagerty high school (2013-14), Boone (2012) and First Coast (2004-11).
