FBU Scholarship Finalist: Michael Ruttlen Jr.

FBU Scholarship Finalist: Michael Ruttlen Jr.

On June 2nd and 3rd, Football University will be hosting a developmental camp at Independence High School in Williamson County.  The FBU camp will provide a chance for football players from around the region to get positional skill training and practice film review provided by former NFL players and coaches.  The camp is open to any interested player in the area for a cost of $495.  However, tnhighschoolfootball.com will be awarding free entry to the FBU camp for one Tennessee athlete as selected by our football panel.  Our fourth finalist is Michael Ruttlen Jr. of Mount Juliet High School in Wilson County.

The Mount Juliet Golden Bears were nothing short of amazing last season on the defensive side of the ball.  The group didn’t allow a single point to be scored against them through the first six games of the year and only gave up 30 points across the entire 2017 regular season.  Michael Ruttlen Jr. was a key contributor to that success from his defensive back position.  Michael will be a senior this fall and hopes to improve upon his impressive junior season that netted him an All-Region 4-6A and All-Wilson County team nod.  He has been interested in attending the FBU camp for several years but has not had the financial resources to pay the registration fee.  Michael knows the camp would help him gain exposure and showcase his skills with the goal of improving his senior season, playing college football, and eventually making it to the NFL.

Michael elaborated on what the camp scholarship would mean to him by saying, “For me, this scholarship means being able to take a step in the direction I’m wanting to go in football. It also will allow me to attend a camp that I’ve wanted to go to since the eighth grade. I am a rising senior, and this is the last opportunity to get exposure, hone my skills, and attend at least one camp this year. I am a student scholar with a GPA of 4.33 but I also realize I need more instruction in football. I hope to be able to accomplish this through a FBU camp.”  Football is an important part of Michael’s life and he describes its impact at length, “Football has played a very important role in my life. I was introduced to the game at the age of five and I immediately fell in love with the game. As I got older, I began to realize I wouldn’t be able to play this amazing sport if it wasn’t for the grace of God. From then on I have used the blessing to play the game as a platform to give all the glory to God. Football has also been the one thing where I could forget everything and find happiness and joy in what I do. The competition and challenges I face make football a lot more interesting and fun to experience.  I love the sport, the atmosphere, and all the people involved who make every moment special and I want to be able to play this sport as long as I can. Football has taught me that with hard work, dedication, and faith anything is possible.”
