East Nashville linebacker Jacob Phillips is headed to the Big 12 next season.
Phillips (6-3, 230) committed to the Oklahoma Sooners in front of family and friends at East Nashville this afternoon.
He chose the Sooners over Texas A&M, Alabama, Notre Dame, Oregon, Auburn, California, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Memphis, MTSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Washington State and Western Kentucky.
He becomes the 22nd commitment for the Sooners in the Class of 2017.
“Oklahoma is getting an outstanding young man. We are proud of Jacob and his decision. We can’t wait to support him next year on his journey. I am very proud of how he has handled his recruitment through this process. Jacob is going to do a great job for the Sooners,” East Nashville head coach Brian Waite said.
Phillips has been a huge presence on defense this season as he has made 73 tackles, including six for loss, intercepted three passes and has scored two defensive touchdowns one on a fumble recovery and the other on an interception return.
Phillips commitment further strengthens the Sooner class as they are currently ranked in the top 5 in all three recruiting services 247sports, Rivals and Scout.
Knoxville West DT Humphrey picks Eastern Kentucky
Eastern Kentucky has found recruiting success again in Tennessee, getting a commitment from Knoxville West defensive tackle Leonard Humphrey.
Humphrey (6-2, 290) chose the Colonels over offers from
Tennessee Tech, Garner Webb, Austin Peay, Citadel, Western Carolina, and Morehead State.
“The coaches are the main reason, I committed to Eastern Kentucky, I have a great relationship with them,” Humphrey said.
He joins Wilson Central defensive back Ray Coggins as Eastern commitments in the Class of 2017 from Tennessee.
“Leonard is very deserving. He is a great young man and hard worker and I’m glad he found a fit for him,” Knox. West head coach Jeff Harig said.
