After averaging 10 wins a season at Madison Academy in Alabama, Grant Reynolds is coming back to the Volunteer State.

Reynolds has been announced as the new head football coach at East Hamilton.

“It’s a great opportunity to get back closer to family and it’s a great chance for me to work at a great school like East Hamilton because I think it’s a sleeping giant,” Reynolds said.

He replaces Ted Gatewood who resigned after starting the football program 10 years ago and posted a 52-60 record in his tenure.

Under Gatewood, the Hurricanes made the playoffs six times in two different classifications (4A in 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2018 and 5A in 2013).

East Hamilton made the Class 4A playoffs last season losing to state champion Greeneville in the first round as they finished 4-7 on the season.

“When we were faced with the task of having to fill our head football coaching vacancy at East Hamilton, we set out to find THE coach and not just A coach.  Throughout this process, Coach Reynolds’ name continued to surface as possibly being that guy.  Getting to know him over the past few weeks allowed us to determine that he would be THE coach that East Hamilton needed to continue successes already established and build upon those successes to take us to new levels.  We are very excited about Coach Reynolds and the future of the East Hamilton football program,” East Hamilton athletic director Keitha Booker said.

Reynolds is returning to Chattanooga after three successful seasons at Madison Academy where he posted a 30-10 records as the Mustangs made the playoffs all three seasons under Reynolds (2016 and 2017 in 4A and 5A in 2018).

Madison Academy was the 4A state runner up in Reynolds’ first season as the Mustangs finished 13-4.

In his first head coaching tenure in Tennessee, Reynolds led Boyd Buchanan (2006-15) to an 80-39 record and 10 playoff appearances that included a Class 2A runner up in 2009, two trips to the Semifinals (2010 and 2012) and two more trips to the Quarterfinals.

There are currently 16 programs looking for a head coach they are: Antioch, Bolton, Collierville, East Hickman, East Robertson, Greeneville, Halls, Hamilton, Hillcrest, Hillwood, Nashville Overton, Northeast, Northpoint Christian, Tellico Plains, Trousdale County and Waverly
