Davidson Academy Beats Friendship Christian for Division II-A Crown

COOKEVILLE- Davidson Academy remains undefeated when they get to the state title game.

Behind the arm of Florida International commit Stone Norton who passed for 377 yards and four touchdowns, the Bears defeated Friendship Christian 39-27 for the Division II-A state title.

The Bears (13-0) are now 4-0 in state title games after winning state titles in 2005, 2006 and 2008 in DII-A as well.

Trailing 14-13 at the half, Davidson broke open the game in the third quarter scoring three touchdowns with two scores coming off passes from Norton as the Bears led 32-21 after three quarters.

Norton was named the game’s MVP and the Bears also had two receivers with more then 100 yards receiving as Jaiden Rice (seven catches for 181 yards, two touchdowns) and Eric Vetetoe (seven catches for 120 yards, TD).

Purdue commitment Da’Joun Hewitt added 123 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns as Davidson racked up 544 yards of total offense.

Friendship Christian was the defending Division II-A state champion and finishes the year at 10-3 as they finished with 314 yards of total offense led by quarterback Braden Reece’s 142 yards passing.
