COOKEVILLE- CPA made it a clean sweep over Division II rival BGA as the Lions defeated the Wildcats 41-21 to win the Division II-AA state title.
Behind the hard nosed running of senior Andrew Madden (135 rushing yards) and two touchdown catches from Furman commitment Bryce McCormick, the Lions won their fourth state title overall and first in Division II.
The Lions (14-0) defeated BGA (11-3) 31-20 during the regular season as CPA won the Division II Middle region title over BGA.
Clemson commitment Kane Patterson (110 rushing yards, two TDs) got CPA off to a quick start as he scored from eight yards out to stake CPA to a 7-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
The CPA defense got two interceptions and the Lion offense converted those into points as quarterback Ryan Eledge found McCormick for a 17 yard and then an 11 yard touchdown to give CPA a 21-0 lead.
The Lions took a 28-0 halftime lead as senior running back Dean Cooper caught a 16 yard touchdown.
BGA got on the board in the third quarter as Tiy Reed scored from 84 yards out on a pass from junior quarterback Nick Semptimpfelter.
Semptimphelter passed for 277 yards and three touchdowns in the loss while Reed (five catches for 120 yards, one TD) and Georgia Tech commitment Chico Bennett (five catches for 102 yards, TD) each had good games in the loss.
