Kevin Rodriguez will be back on a football sideline in the Chattanooga area as he has been hired as the new interim head football coach at Boyd Buchanan.
He replaces Carter Cardwell who resigned on Monday after compiling a 9-12 record the last two seasons.
Cardwell led the Buccaneers in their last season in Division I in 2016 as the Buccaneers finished 7-4 and lost in the Class 2A playoffs to Watertown, last season, the first season in Division II-AA, Boyd finished 2-8 and missed the playoffs.
Rodriguez last coached at Soddy Daisy where he had a 18-24 record in four seasons (2009-12) and led the Trojans to the Class 6A playoffs in 2010.
Rodriguez brings over 22 years of high school coaching experience, with 19 of those years dedicated to high school football.
Rodriguez began his football coaching career in Florida where he was an assistant varsity head JV football coach for five years. While coaching at Auburndale Sr. High School, Rodriguez highlights included six playoff appearances and advancing to the semi-finals in 1998. He also coached two D1 signees on the defensive line and one high school All-American football player.
Hailing back to Chattanooga in 2003, Rodriguez’s local football coaching career included Soddy Daisy High School and Red Bank High School. During this time, Rodriguez was an assistant coach from 2003-2007, assistant head coach in 2008, and named head coach in 2009.
Previous positions held were offensive coordinator, special teams coordinator, and defensive line. Rodriguez handled all aspects of 6A program including all budgeting, travel, equipment, scheduling, organizing camps, and leadership academy.
Rodriguez highlights at Soddy Daisy High School include a playoff appearance in 2010, and advancing to the 2nd round of TSSAA playoffs. He coached a 2011 Region Player of the Year, and a 2010 & 2011 Defensive Player of the Year.
Rodriguez attended Austin Peay State University where he received a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology with a minor in Physical Education.
