Streak Going Into 2017– two game losing streak
Mike Head became the fifth head football coach at Antioch since 2012 as he was hired last month to take over the Bear program.
The Bears are 27-48 since 2010 but have been to the playoffs 5 times over that period (some of that due to every team in 6A going to the playoffs) but a lot of work has to get done to get Antioch back to prominence as the last winning season was in 2012 where they went 6-5.
Antioch went winless (0-11) in 2015 before winning three games last season and Head wants to improve on that record.
The Bears will return six starters on each side of the ball and Head is excited at the prospects of the season despite the late start in learning the terminology of the offense and defense.
Although the job is far from settled, A.J. Williams (a converted receiver) looks to be the favorite so far to start at quarterback, but the job probably won’t be settled until right before the opening regular season game against Station Camp on August 18.
Junior Lashamus Kennedy should be the starter at running back with depth coming in the form of Marquez Lee while Montel Grier, Trevon Henderson, Torey Gayters, Brian Fredrick, Ontario Rice and Malik Nance will all be in the rotation at wide receiver.
Bernard Diyi, Alijah Williams, Monty Williams, Mark Thomas and Jonathan Haynes will be asked to lead the Antioch offensive line.
Haynes and Williams will be two-way linemen getting time on the defensive line alongside seniors Josiah Everett and Brannon Shelton IV.
Starting positions at linebacker and in the secondary are unclear at this time but several players are in the mix to play at those positions.
Henderson, Kennedy, Lee, Monty Thomas and Mark Thomas all will work at linebacker while Grier, Rice, Nance, Fredrick and Gayters will compete for positions in the Bear secondary.
Antioch Since 2010:
27-48 overall record, five playoff appearances
Antioch In the Playoffs:
Total Number of Playoff Appearances- 14
Playoff Record- 4-14
Deepest Playoff Run- Four second round appearances in 1999, 2000, 2006 and 2007 (5A)
