Tracy Malone has resigned after one season at Whitwell to enter the world of real estate.
In only one season at Whitwell, Malone led the Tigers to a 6-6 record and to the second round of the Class 1A playoffs.
“I want to thank Mark Griffith and Teena Casseday for their support throughout my time in Whitwell. You’ll be hard pressed to find two more loyal people to work for.
It simply came down to the fact that it was not the right fit for me, the community or my family. I have a tremendous opportunity to work in real estate and it’s something I couldn’t pass up,” Malone said.
“I won’t rule out getting back into coaching in the future but right now this is the right move for my family.”
“2017 will be very special in Whitwell with 20 starters returning and the coaching staff we’ve put in place. There comes a time when you have to put what’s best for your family above ambition. My wife and sons have supported me along every step of the way. It’s time I put their needs first.
Before Whitwell, Malone posted a 23-21 record at East Ridge in four seasons that included two playoff appearances in 2013 and 2015.
The Whitwell job was the fourth head coaching job for Malone as he was also the coach at White County (2009-11), Ardmore (AL, 2006-08) as well as East Ridge. He also was an assistant coach at Riverdale (1998-2001) when the Warriors captured the 2001 5A state title and also had assistant coaching stints in Georgia at Mundy’s Mill and Grayson.
The next coach will be the ninth head coach at Whitwell since 2000 joining Malone (2016), R.C. Helton (2014-15), Billy Barnhart (2011-13), Dan Tierney (2009-10), Tim Taylor (2008), Sam Montgomery (2007), Phillip Condra (2005-06) and Wes Green (2000-04).
There are currently 13 programs looking for a head coach they are: Whitwell, Clarksville Northeast, Rossview, Creek wood, Ripley, Grace Christian Academy, Wartburg, Glencliff, Carter, Unaka, ECS, Brainerd and Loretto.
