Ooltewah found their new head football coach and he was already on staff.
Scott Chandler who was the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach for the Owls last season has been elevated to head coach at Ooltewah.
He replaces Mac Bryan who resigned last month to accept the head football coaching and athletic director jobs at Avery County (NC) high school.
“Ooltewah High School is honored and privileged to name the new head football coach. After several quality applicants, the football search committee has decided to name Scott Chandler to this position,” a school issued press release said.
“He brings great passion, knowledge, and experience to this football team and its staff. His belief system is impeccable, and because of this, he will bring great pride and respect to the Ooltewah community.”
This will be Chandler’s second head coaching job as he led the Coosa (GA) program for three years (2004-06) and led them to a 20-14 record and two trips to the playoffs (2004 and 2006) and Coosa made the Quarterfinal round in 2006.
He has also been an assistant coach at Rhea County as well as a stop in Alabama at Beulah high school and in Georgia at Trion and was the defensive coordinator at Gordon Central.
Chandler was a college graduate assistant under coach Bill Snyder and coached defense under then defensive coordinator Bob Stoops and also coached secondary at Valdosta State and was the co-defensive coordinator at Emporia State.
Bryan was 45-16 at Ooltewah and the Owls are coming off a 6A playoff appearance losing to Dobyns Bennett as they finished 5-6 in 2017.
Ooltewah took off under Bryan as the Owls made the playoffs all five seasons under Bryan (2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 in 5A, 2017 in 6A) as they posted three straight 10 plus win seasons (2014, 2015 and 2016) and made back to back 5A Quarterfinal trips in 2015 and 2016.
The following 16 schools are looking for a new head coach: Cannon County, Chattanooga Central, Copper Basin, David Crockett, DCA, Dobyns Bennett, Houston, Humboldt, KIPP Academy, Kingsbury, Memphis East, Pickett County, Richland, Sequatchie County, Sullivan North and Westwood
