14 years ago Ricky Bowers was the first teacher and coach hired at Ensworth high school.
Bowers has served as athletic director, head football and boys basketball coach at the private school but has resigned and Jeremy Garrett has been named as his replacement.
He will stay on at Ensworth continuing to serve as athletic director and head boys basketball coach.
“This is the perfect time for me to hand off the leadership of the football program, and Jeremy Garrett is the best person for the job,” Bowers said in the press release. “His love of our students, remarkable humility, rock-solid integrity, tireless work ethic, and unique ability to build unity attract everyone to him. I am confident that our football program will thrive under his leadership.”
Garrett currently serves as the Ensworth associate director of admissions and is an assistant track and field coach as well.
“I feel extremely blessed and honored to serve as Head Football Coach at Ensworth. This is a fantastic opportunity to do what I love and to develop, mentor, lead, and coach young men. It is exciting to lead a football program at a school that seeks excellence in both academics and athletics. I would like thank Athletic Director Ricky Bowers, Head of School David Braemer, and the entire Ensworth community for this amazing opportunity,” Garrett said.
Bowers was inducted in December to the Tennessee Football Coaches Association (TnFCA) Hall of Fame as he has a 194-47 overall record including 113-30 record in his 14 seasons at Ensworth.
He led Ensworth to four consecutive state titles in Division II-AA (2010-13) and also won three state titles in his time at MBA (1999, 2000 and 2001) as he was 81-17 at MBA.
