Two weeks after Lynord Crutchfield retired as the head football coach at Memphis Central, Warrior principal Greg McCullough has introduced Major Wright as the new Central coach.
Wright, who led Raleigh Egypt to undefeated regular season and 12-1 record and the school’s first Quarterfinal appearance and a 21-13 record and will lead his fourth Memphis program.
“I believe we hit a grand slam on this one. Coach Wright is one of the best proven coaches in Shelby County. Most importantly he is a great person with strong integrity to lead our student athletes. I am very excited about his addition to our staff,” McCullough said.
Wright replaces Crutchfield who posted a 45-33 record in seven seasons as the Warriors finished 5-6 this season.
Wright has a 122-76 overall record as he was the head coach at White Station (2001-07), where he was 52-31 and led the Spartans to five consecutive playoff appearances (2003-07).
He then led the Briarcrest program for six seasons (2008-13) posting a 38-30 record and six playoff appearances.
There are 10 schools that are currently looking for a head coach they are: Blackman, Ezell Harding, Grundy County, Humboldt, Lincoln County, Lookout Valley, Milan, Raleigh Egypt, Rossville Christian and Volunteer
