David Dinger is a Lookout Valley Institution.
The 1983 Lookout Valley graduate has worn many hats in his nearly three decades of coaching and teaching at the small Class 1A high school in Chattanooga.
For 23 years, Dinger was in charge of the Yellow Jacket baseball program as he accumulated an overall record of 513-249 and led Lookout Valley to four state tournament appearances and won nine district titles before resigning in 2011.
Dinger was inducted into the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association (TBCA) Hall of Fame this year.
Since 2014, Dinger has been in charge of the Lady softball team and now has another program to lead as he has been named the new head football coach at Lookout Valley as well.
“We are pleased that Mr. Dinger has accepted the offer of our head football coaching position. We know him to be an excellent coach – knowledgeable, hardworking, and dedicated to whatever program he oversees. We are fortunate to have an experienced coach of Mr. Dinger’s caliber on our staff, to have him accept, and to have the remainder of our coaching staff back on board for next year. We expect good things moving forward,” Lookout Valley principal Rick Rushworth said.
This will be Dinger’s second tenure as head football coach serving as the head coach for six years in the 1990s.
He replaces Lance Rorex who led the Yellow Jackets to a 5-6 record and a 1A playoff appearance in his only season as head coach.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to lead this program next year that made great progress last season. The coaching staff will remain intact and hopefully we can build on last year’s success,” Dinger said.
Dinger has been on the football sidelines for the last 29 seasons at Lookout Valley and has served as the Yellow Jackets defensive coordinator for the last decade.
There are 13 schools that are currently looking for a head coach they are: Cannon County, Cordova, Fayette Ware, Gibbs, Grundy County, Halls, Humboldt, Milan, Raleigh Egypt, Rossville Christian, Scott, Upperman and Volunteer.
