Kevin Human has worked hard learning his coaching craft at the middle school level with success.
In 2014, he led the Oakdale middle school program to the Class A East Tennessee state title and was the head coach for Wartburg middle the last two years.
Now the Wartburg graduate will take over his Alma mater as he was announced as the new head football coach at Wartburg high school.
“I’m just excited to have the opportunity to come back home to my Alma mater and coach the high school program,” Human said.
“I’m looking forward to building a competitive program here at Wartburg and trying to make a return to the playoffs. But first we have to focus on just getting some wins and hopefully a playoff opportunity will present itself.”
The Bulldogs haven’t made the playoffs since 2011 and haven’t won a playoff game since making the 2A Quarterfinals back in 2010.
He replaces Larry Davis who was 44-102 in two separate stints (1995-2006 and 2015-16) including an 0-20 record the last two seasons.
In his first tenure as Bulldog head coach, Davis led Wartburg to four Class 2A playoff appearances (1995, 2001, 2002 and 2004) winning first round games in 2001 and 2002 as they beat Hampton both seasons.
Human, 39, will have a lot of work to do as he inherits a 22 game losing streak as the last win for the Bulldogs was against Jellico in the 2014 season.
He coached at the middle school level the last 12 seasons at both Oakdale and Wartburg middle schools.
There are currently 12 programs looking for a head coach they are: Whitwell, Clarksville Northeast, Rossview, Creek wood, Ripley, Grace Christian Academy, Glencliff, Carter, Unaka, ECS, Brainerd and Loretto.
