18 years after leaving DCA, Paul Wade is headed back to the take over the Wildcat program.
Wade who was defensive coordinator for the Wildcats from 1993 to 1999, has been hired to replace long time coach Dennis Goodwin who retired in March but will stay on to be the DCA athletic director.
Goodwin led the Wildcats to four state title games in three different classifications (1988 in Class A, 1996 and 2004 in 1A and 2017 in Division II-A), the Wildcats won state titles in 1996 and 2004 and they are coming off a 9-4 season in which they finished runner up to Friendship Christian.
His overall record at DCA is 220-87 and he led the Wildcats to 25 consecutive appearances, the last year that DCA didn’t make the playoffs was in 1991.
“We are pleased to announce Coach Paul Wade as our next Head Football Coach. Coach Wade began his high school coaching career at DCA, grew up in the Donelson-Hermitage community, and now is returning back home. He has had great success at every stop he’s made but, more importantly, he has made a lasting impact on the school community in which he has served and the lives of the young men he has coached,” Goodwin said via school issued press release.
Wade won three Division II-A state titles as the head coach at Davidson Academy (2005, 2006 and 2008) as the Bears made the playoffs all six years he was there (2004-09) and posted a 53-17 overall record.

It’s a blessing to return to Christian education, and I look forward to partnering with the parents, faculty, and staff in promoting the mission of the school by developing the whole person to be a Christ-like leader in the home, church, and the community. In fact In his 26 seasons as a football coach, Wade has been a part of 10 state championship teams, (DCA in 1996, Class 1A), two as an assistant at CPA (1A in 2000 and 2002), three as head coach at Davidson Academy (DII-A in 2005, 2006 and 2008) and four as an assistant at Ensworth (DII-AA in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013).
After leaving DCA, Wade served as the Defensive Coordinator at CPA for five seasons (2000-04) before becoming head coach at Davidson Academy in 2005.
He left Davidson Academy in 2010 and has served as the Associate head coach and Offensive Coordinator at Ensworth since help leading the Tigers to four consecutive Division II-AA state titles and one runner up finish.
