Derek Witt, who just finished his first season as the head football coach at Carter has been placed on administrative leave, tnhighschoolfootball.com has learned.
Emails and phone calls to Carter administration went unreturned but Knox County schools Public Affairs Director Carly Harrington confirmed the administrative leave and issued the following statement.
“Derek Witt, the head football coach for Carter High School, has been placed on administrative leave with pay, pending an investigation. Because this investigation is continuing, we are unable to comment further at this time,” Harrington said.
Witt, a 1994 Carter graduate finished his first season leading the Hornets program as they finished 2-8 in 2017.
Before taking the head coach job, Witt was the Hornets offensive and defensive line coach for three seasons (2014-16).
Before coming back to Strawberry Plains, Witt coached at Karns for eight years (2005-13) including the last three seasons (2011-13) as the head football coach leading the Beavers to a 10-21 record and a Class 6A playoff appearance in 2011 as they finished 6-5.
